Sciatica: How Can You Get Rid of Your Pain in the Butt?

Have you ever experienced a literal pain in the butt that continues all the way down your leg? Has it ever felt like someone was sticking a hot poker into your leg? If either of these scenarios is familiar to you, you've probably suffered from sciatica, a pain in the sciatic nerve. No one experiencing sciatica wants it to stick around any longer than, well, at all, so let's not delay in discovering how you can make your leg pain a distant memory.

To understand and defeat the beast that is sciatica, it will be helpful to understand what it is and what causes it. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in your body, which starts in the low back and travels all the way down your legs to the bottom of your feet. It controls nearly everything within your legs: from the large hamstring and quadriceps muscles in your upper legs to the smallest blood vessels in the bottom of your feet.

Sciatica is quite simply irritation of the sciatic nerve. This can happen several different ways at a few different points in the nerve's journey from the low back to and through the leg.

Frequently sciatic nerve pain is a result of the joints in your lower spine being poorly aligned and putting pressure or stretching on the nerves as they come off from your spine. This problem is called a subluxation and is diagnosed and treated by chiropractors. Sciatica can also commonly occur due to spasm of a muscle in the buttock called the piriformis muscle. The sciatic nerve passes under this muscle as it travels through the pelvis near the hip down to the back of your leg. This problem is frequently treated by physical therapists, chiropractors and massage therapists.

If you aren't able to get in to the chiropractor or physical therapist right away or you hope to help improve your situation at least in part on your own, here are some tips to help relieve the pain associated with sciatica.

Give it a rest. Exercise is a great asset to getting and staying healthy, but when your sciatic nerve is unhappy, exercise will frequently flare up your problem and slow your progress. Especially if the piriformis muscle is involved, exercise which causes pounding, such as walking, running, tennis, basketball, soccer, etc., will flare the piriformis spasm and put additional strain on the spine in the lower part of the back.

Take a break from your regular exercise routine to give your sciatic nerve a break. If you simply must exercise, try non-impact exercises of the upper body, like resistive exercise band exercise or exercise ball exercises. Swimming may be a helpful alternative to your regular routine as well.

Stretch yourself. Relaxing the muscles in the lower back, buttocks and upper legs through stretching will help reduce the strain on the sciatic nerve and the joints throughout the lower back and pelvis. Always stretch gently and avoid any further stretching if it causes sharp pain or if it aggravates your problem.

Stretching the piriformis muscle can be done several different ways. However, when your sciatic nerve is screaming, the easiest stretch involves lying on your back with your knees bent and pulling one knee at a time up towards the opposite shoulder and holding it for 5-30 seconds. You will know you are getting a good stretch when you feel a mild stretch in the buttocks near the hip.

Chill out. Ice will be your best friend when you are suffering from sciatica. Placing a cold pack or ice pack on the lower spine, tailbone and/or buttock for 20 minutes once every 2-3 hours will help reduce swelling and also reduce pain. It is important to use ice exclusively at the onset of sciatica, as it has been found to decrease the length of time needed for healing.

If after 4-5 days you choose to alternate ice and heat, keep it off from the spine and limit heat use, especially with a heating pad, to no more than 20 minutes. Avoid sleeping while applying heat, as it can cause burns and can dry out the tissues, slowing the healing process.

Get it straight. Your posture plays an important role in the health of your spine. Sitting and standing as straight as is comfortably possible will help to reduce the effects of nerve irritation and get your nerves healing quicker and more completely. Avoid sitting in soft couches or chairs, as they will not give you the support that you need to sit well. Instead, drag a kitchen chair into the living room and spend your time sitting in a more supportive chair. Use a back support cushions in every chair you sit in; whether at work, in the car or at home to help support your back properly.

Move it! While sitting in a straight-back chair is helpful in supporting your lower back and spine, be sure that you aren't sitting for any longer than 15-20 minutes at a time. Lack of movement in the joints of the spine especially can cause further damage, stiffness and muscle strain. Getting up and moving frequently, even if only to stretch or walk gently around the room will help to keep circulation fresh and facilitate a quicker recovery. Be sure that you stay well within your limits; if you are pushing yourself too hard and it is causing pain, then stop and give yourself a rest.

Get some sleep. Sleep is one of the most critical components in helping start and in maintaining a healing process. When you sleep, your body does its best work of healing and repairs the damage done throughout the day. Following any injury or during any illness, regular sleep is critical in helping your body get the upper hand.

Drink like a fish. To drink like a fish, you need to drink what a fish drinks: water, lots and lots of water. When your body isn't hydrated properly, the tissues become tacky and adhesions form. If adhesions form, this slows the healing process and causes increased scar formation. Adhesions can form between your sciatic nerve and the surrounding tissues, causing your healing process to be incomplete and leaving you vulnerable to frequent, repeated sciatic episodes.

Put on some relief. Topical analgesics can help alleviate some of the bite of the pain of sciatica while helping soothe the spasm in the muscles of the low back, buttocks and upper leg. Getting even temporary relief from your sciatica can help your healing process by providing you an opportunity to rest or sleep.

Go for a massage. It stands to reason that if your sciatica is due to irritation of the sciatic nerve from spasm of your piriformis, hamstring or lower back muscles, deep tissue massage can be of great benefit to you. Getting a massage or even using a massager at home that is able to get into the deeper tissues of the buttocks and low back may help relieve some or all of your sciatic pain. At the very least, it can help to reduce the stress that commonly accumulates when you are in pain.

Get professional help. It is always a good idea to seek help from a chiropractor, medical doctor, physical therapist or massage therapist when you experience pain in the low back and/or legs. Waiting too long to effectively treat a condition involving your nerves can cause problems as mild as missing time from work all the way up to irreversible nerve damage. It is wise to effectively and completely deal with any problems involving your nerves, as doing so will help prevent similar problems from rearing their ugly head again down the road.

Even if you end up seeking professional help to deal with sciatica, incorporating practical home care can help shorten your recovery time and get you out of pain quicker. If pain in your buttocks and legs is something that you would rather avoid than deal with again, use these tips regularly to give yourself the best chance of preventing sciatica for years to come.

The better you take care of yourself, the greater health and vitality you will enjoy.

All About Re+5 Keratin Treatment

I have tried almost every new concept on my hair. The perming, straightening, coloring, highlighting, teasing, curling, braiding and styling in almost every way imaginable (except I've never been too short). So it is not surprising that I decided to do one of the latest trends in hair care - the Re+5 Keratin treatment.

You may ask, what is the Re+5 Keratin treatment actually? Well, it's a treatment for smoothing and straightening hair that helps your hair virtually maintenance free as well as frizz free. It is ideal for those with hair that tends to be frizzy and responds poorly to moisture, like mine, and also gives great deal of added luster to your hair, so it makes it look much healthier.

This Re+5 Keratin treatment lasts between 3-5 months, depending on how often you wash your hair because the keratin does gradually and naturally flowing out of hair little by little, so those who do not shampoo too often are kinda lucky. The cost of this procedure, which lasts two to two and a half hours, usually runs up to $150 per hour, depending on the length of your hair.

This means the total bill will be between $ 300 and $ 400 for the treatment process, and also you have to buy a special shampoo for it which usually costs about $ 35 for a large bottle, so after the whole process and some after-treatment products, with the tip and shampoo, you're probably facing with an almost $500 bill, more or less. My bill came to be about $ 485, as I have long hair. The process took two hours to me, and it was not all bad at all.

I have had thermal reconditioning before as well (also known as Japanese straightening), whose process took about five hours in total and cost a bit more. It is said to last longer though, and the hair will be so poker straight that maybe not everyone is happy about that because the lacking in body for a while.

The Japanese straightening also has a very distinct smell in the process, while the Re+5 Keratin treatment I had did not smell at all during the process. A slightly dull smell did come out for the three days following the treatment, but it was not so bad.

Let's talk about the process and my experience now, and finally, my review of what I think about it. I reached the salon at 3:30. The technician told me about what to expect, and looked at my hair to gauge the texture and condition of my hair. She told me that I would surly love my hair when it was done. She took me to the shampoo chair and washed my hair with Re+5 keratin purifying shampoo, to make it more porous so that the keratin can deeply penetrate into the hair. I asked her about the product. "Re+5 keratin is specialized in keratin treatment. Its performance is as great as some local brands while the price is much lower because it is made in China", she explained.

When my hair was clean, my technician took me back to the styling chair where she blew it dry completely, which I thought it a nightmare to see a giant bale of hay on my head. Then she went and mixed the Re+5 Brazilian Keratin hair treatment and came back, pinning my hair into sections and painting the mixture on it with a brush until it was completely saturated.

Then she set a timer for twenty minutes, and I sat there and read a magazine, almost falling asleep I might add. She returned in twenty minutes, took me back to the shampoo chair and rinsed out the product. I'm not sure if there was a neutralizer or any other type of solution added to my hair at the time because I was so relaxed that I could hardly notice anything since getting my hair done always makes me a zombie.

I noticed that there was no strong chemical smell during the whole process this time. I was a bit surprised, especially after having had so many treatments, the Japanese straightening, cold smoothing, and hair coloring, which all smelled very strong. My scalp did not burn or itch at all either. I am not sure if that's just the brand they used or what, but that gave me a good feeling of its safety. Now we were down to the wire. Finally I was going to see the results of this amazing keratin treatment. She blew dry my hair again, then divided it into sections and flat iron them one by one, from root to tip. She warned me that my hair would look very flat in the next three days, just like someone plastered them in the head. But I have been used to that since the same thing had happened with the thermal reconditioning.

She also suggested that it was important that I can not get my hair wet for the next 72 hours. Also I was not allowed to sweat, which means that I could not be working out for the next three days either. I was advised not to put any type of hair tie or hair clips in my hair, and not even tucking my hair behind ears because of the moldable hair shape after treatment while the product maintained over the next two days.

When the flat ironing is finished, I could not believe how shiny my hair looked. Besides it was so straight – very very straight! Almost too straight, but I knew that it would not be exactly as straight as it was all the time. The hair itself looked great, but I admit I felt terrible seeing me with absolutely zero body to my hair. The next three days were suffering.

The hardest part was not getting any moisture on it. You can't imagine how difficult it is to do that when you're around water. You still have to shower. So I wore a shower cap and only wished that it would keep every drop of water. It worked well except for a few drops when I took it off my head.

My hair looked great when I left the salon, regardless of the plain which was very difficult for me to deal with. And it looked a little duller and even flatter the next day. However, I knew that as soon as they were washed, it would look much better. FINALLY, the third day came, and I immediately washed my hair with the special sodium laurel sulfate free shampoo (Re+5 keratin daily shampoo and conditioner). BTW, sodium can take the keratin out of hair fast, so any products with sodium or sodium-based ingredients is advised to be avoided, according to my technician.

I blew the hair dry. Wow, that seemed amazing! It was not as completely poker straight as when I got the thermal reconditioning done, but shiny, no frizz, and looked very healthy. It was so soft and silky that makes you want to touch it. I really like the result because you can have some natural wave.

So that's my review of the Re+5 Keratin treatment. I would recommend it to anyone who wants hair to be more manageable with less maintenance, and anyone who wants to eliminate the frizz and some of the curls of hair, especially during the summer months we have here in Ohio where humidity reaches ridiculous levels.

Defining "Haram" Money

Many Malaysians especially the non-Muslim must be wondering why is it a hype about the "Haram" money in Penang. Most of the Muslims and some non-Muslims there are returning the one hundred to two hundred ringgit to the State Government when they found out that the money came from the Penang Turf Club. We might be thinking to ourselves: "After all, the money is free. Just take it".

What actually is "Halal" and "Haram" money for a Muslim person? Especially a non-Muslim might ask. Many people will only think that when it comes to "Halal" and "Haram", it is only about food but in actual fact, for a Muslim, everything we do all comes down to the "Hukum" or pillars in what we can or cannot do. They are the "Halal", "Haram", "Makruh" and "Sunah" and it all comes down to be sinful or virtues.

"Halal" simply means taking or doing something in a proper or legitimate way. It can also mean eating something that is conforming to the Islamic dietary laws. There are virtues for doing a Halal act and there are no sins for doing so. The meaning of "Haram" is the opposite meaning of "Halal". A Muslim cannot take nor do something that is considered an improper or illegitimate way. There will be sins doing something that is considered Haram and definitely will be no virtues. For "Makruh", it basically means "disliked" and it simply means that when a Muslim does, or consumes something, there won't be any sin nor virtue for him or her but is advised not to do so. The last one is the "Sunah", a Muslim will get a virtue for doing or consuming something that is considered Sunah but if he or she does not do it, there won't be any sins or any virtues.

When we look at the scene in Penang, an amount of RM500,000 has been paid by the Turf Club there to the state government. The total amount is then given out to the poor and needy of Penang. Socially, distributing gains from a Company for the betterment of a state or a country is a responsible act. For the Islam religion, gambling is considered "Haram". Whether it is from a third party or directly, when a company's core income is from gambling, it is Haram for a Muslim to enjoy or even take the benefits or gains from that company.

From the Qur'an, in which all Muslims will refer to, there is a verse in it which states: "They ask you concerning wine and gambling. Say, in them there is great sin and some benefit for men. The sin is greater than the benefit." (Surah al-Baqarah, V. 219) This verse states that there are benefits to consuming alcohol or gambling but there are more sins than benefits if a Muslim does so. When there is a sin in an action, it is therefore considered Haram for a Muslim.

There are still ways for a Government or individual to spend such gains gained from a company which involves in gambling, alcohol or other activities considered Haram to the Muslim community. These moneys can actually be used for the betterment of the state or country too like for example, for charities in general, such as building roads or buildings, constructing community centres and financing other public-welfare projects.

When it comes to managing a Multi-Racial community, where there are not only the Muslims, there are also others like the Christians, Buddhists, Hindus and many more religions, it is important for the people in-charge to take into account the sensitivities of every religion in our beloved 1Malaysia. Otherwise, these insensitivities will be exploited by certain irresponsible parties not only in Malaysia but also from abroad and may make us 1Malaysians look ridiculed in the "Eyes of the World" for returning a mere donation.

Review of John Assaraf's Winning the Inner Game of Money

John Assaraf's new Winning the Inner Game of Money is getting an awful lot of interest but is it actually worthy of all the incredible hype? We take a close look and bring to light the truth about Winning the Inner Game of Money in this impartial report.

You are most likely familiar with John Assaraf from the hit movie "The Secret" or perhaps one of his dozens of TV appearances on shows like Ellen or NBC News, so you already know he is a recognized educator of the Law of Attraction.

What you may not know is that John has actually devoted much of his energy to discovering the actual neuroscience behind creating money, wealth and success in your life.

John's latest work on creating wealth through the power of the mind is being called by some the most remarkable discovery in over ten years.

There is no doubt that our subconscious thoughts control our feelings, our feelings control our conscious thoughts, our conscious thoughts rule our actions, and our actions design our results.

The problem you run into when trying to apply the Law of Attraction to manifesting money and success in their life is that the negative subconscious thoughts you have towards money and abundance are so totally embedded you may not even recognize they are there.

We are programmed from birth by those who surround us, like parents, teachers and friends, how to believe and feel about money. As young children our minds are just like sponges taking in all of the data about the world given to us, even though we may not completely identify with it yet.

When we finally reach adulthood, the neurons in our brain have been formed and the neuroplasticity that contains our subconscious thoughts is primarily running on autopilot, determining how much success or failure we have.

Winning the Inner Game of Money applies the most recent techniques in brain wave frequency that neuropsychology and science has to offer. It actually is able to seek out the precise position where your subconscious thoughts are formed and held, then enables you to swiftly replace the negative thoughts into affirming thoughts which allow you to begin creating the success and money you really want!

John Assaraf is now sharing this incredible new technology with the general public that will teach you exactly how to reprogram your brain for maximum success!
